As per a Springer Nature journal, this publisher (SDI) received 2nd rank among Top Global Publishers for Open Peer review.

This journal follows highly respected Advanced OPEN peer-review system.
We are delighted to announce that as per a recent paper published in a Springer Nature journal, we (SDI) received 2nd rank among Top Global Publishers to adopt modern transparent OPEN peer-review process.
Outside of Europe and USA, we (SDI) are the only publisher, which got any rank in the list.
We congratulate all editors, reviewers, collaborators, consultants for achieving this great honour.

SDI promotes transparent Advanced OPEN peer review

We have migrated to transparent and toughest ‘Advanced OPEN peer review’ system (Detailed general information is available in this link). High quality manuscripts are peer-reviewed by minimum two peers of the same field. OPEN peer review system provides the provision to reveal the identities of the authors and reviewers to each other during review process. In order to add transparency further, details of all reviewers and academic editors are published in the first page of every published paper (in the Article Information section: see example). As a final step to provide highest level transparency in the process, all review comments, authors’ feedbacks, all versions of the manuscript and editorial comments are published (along with date) with the paper in ‘Review History’ link (See example 1example 2example 3, etc). This transparent process will help to eradicate any possible malicious/purposeful interference by any person (publishing staff, reviewer, editor, author, etc) during peer review. As a result of this unique system all reviewers will get their due recognition and respect, once their names are published with the papers (Example Link). If reviewers do not want to reveal their identities, we will honour that request. In that case only the review reports will be published as ‘anonymous reviewer report’.

Additionally ‘Advanced OPEN peer review’ greatly helps in ‘continuity and advancement of science’. We strongly believe that all the files related to peer review of a manuscript are valuable and hold an important place in the continuity and advancement of science. If publishers publish the peer review reports along with published papers, this process can result in savings of thousands of hours of future authors during experiments, manuscript preparation, etc. by minimizing the common errors after reading these previously published peer review reports. Therefore, as per our new official policy update, if the manuscript is published, all peer review reports will be available to the readers. All files (like original manuscript, comments of the reviewers, revised manuscript, and editorial comment (if any)) related to the peer review, will be available in “Review history” link along with the published paper (Example Link).

Additionally we believe that one of the main objectives of peer review system is ‘to improve the quality of a candidate manuscript’. Normally we try to publish the ‘average marks (out of 10)’ a manuscript received at initial peer review stage and at final publication stage to record its history of improvement during peer review. This process further increases the transparency. It is more important to record honestly the ‘strength and weakness of a manuscript’ than claiming that ‘our peer review system is perfect’. Therefore, these transparent processes (i.e. publication of review history files and scores of a particular manuscript) additionally give a clear idea of the strength and weakness of a published paper to the readers, which enhances the chances of proper use of the result of a research (and or reduces the chances of misuse of the weakness of the findings of the paper). Thus this transparent process may prove to be highly beneficial for the society in long run.

SDI introduced Post-publication peer review by its comment section

SDI journals encourage Post-publication peer review by its comment section

Policy details are available below

1. SDI journal Web sites provide the ability for users to comment on articles to facilitate community evaluation and discourse around published articles. Comment section is mainly dedicated to promote “Post-publication peer review”. Therefore, all SDI journals strictly follow ‘pre-publication OPEN peer review’ and strongly encourage “Post-publication peer review”. As a result of this “Post-publication peer review”, if authors agree and or journal Editors agree (and or SDI agrees) that any correction is necessary, then it will be published FREE of cost by following SDI Correction and retraction policy (http://www.sciencedomain.org/page.php?id=sdi-correction-and-retraction-policy).

2. Users, who want to comment, are encouraged to register in SDI website (https://www.sciencedomain.org/user/register). But if anybody doesn’t want to register, we’ll respect the decision. In order to honour ‘free flow of thoughts’ unregistered user are also welcome to comment. Social login is also encouraged.

3. At the end of every comment, user must identify himself/herself by providing the following information 1. Full Name 2. Name of the Department, University, institute, etc. (These two information will be displayed publicly). We don’t like ‘anonymous’ comments. Comments with ‘forged identity’ will be deleted.

4. Comments should be used to make additions or clarifications, identify and link to material, and are designed to lead to discussions concerning the content, conclusions, and consequences of a specific article.

5. Be respectful, and do not attack the author or other commenter. Take on the idea, not the messenger. Don’t use obscene, profane, vulgar, illegal, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, pornographic, or offensive language or content; or that infringes another’s rights, including any intellectual property rights. Language that is insulting, inflammatory, or obscene will not be tolerated. Unsupported assertions or statements should be avoided. Comments must be evidence-based, not authority-based. When previously published studies are cited, they must be accurately referenced and, where possible, a DOI and link to a publicly accessible version supplied. Unpublished data should be provided with sufficient methodological detail for those data to be assessed. Alternatively, a permanent Web link to such information should be provided. Arguments based on belief are to be avoided. Discussions should be confined to the demonstrable content of articles and should avoid speculation about the motivations or prejudices of authors. Questions about experimental data are appropriate, but need to phrased in a way that does not imply any misconduct on the part of the authors. If a reader is concerned about potential misconduct, such concerns must always be raised with senior editorial staff at SDI (contact@sciencedomain.org). All contributions must conform to the norms of civilized scientific discussion. Any contributions that do not meet these standards will be removed. Any users who consistently transgress these conventions may be banned. Stay on point. Comments that stray from the topic at hand may be deleted.

6. SDI advises that Comments are first written in a word-processing program that allows for spell checking before they are copied and pasted into the Comment field. When you are satisfied with the text, click “Post” to attach the Comment to the article.

7. Two kinds of Corrections are encouraged to be posted to an article: Minor Corrections and Major Corrections. Minor Corrections indicate small errors and clarifications to the article, whereas Major Corrections are reserved for errors that significantly affect the utility or understanding of the article. In both cases, the decision to indicate a posting as a Minor or Major Correction is the responsibility of SDI staff.

8. Authors or interested parties are encouraged to respond to a Comment or Correction.

9. All comments are ‘moderated’. SDI is the final arbiter of the suitability of content for inclusion in SDI web sites.

10. We are not able to monitor every comment that comes through. If you see something objectionable, please let us know (contact@sciencedomain.org). Once a comment has been flagged, a staff member will investigate. SDI reserves the right to suspend the privileges of any user.

Science (IF: 31) report confirmed the high standard of SDI journal

As per a recent report (Link) of Science journal (present Impact factor 31), one of our journal (British Journal of Pharmaceutical Research) passed a stringent test of the quality of Peer review by rejecting a fake article (Link1Link2Link3). We applaud the dedication and hard work of our peer reviewers and editors to maintain the high standard of our journals. It was reported that out of total 304 journals, only 20 journals rejected the fake article after substantial peer review. We are happy that our journal was among these few successful journals along with industry leaders like PLoS One, Hindawi, etc. We believe that the result of this experiment also proved the efficacy of our Advanced OPEN peer review and ‘post-publication’ peer review system. Though the report is debated, as it did not include subscription journals, we normally support any effort to improve the quality and transparency of peer review.

Growth of SDI and world publication market

As of 2014, total 25,064 journals are competing in World market of journal publication. In 2011, total 1.98 million articles were published by 20395 journals. In 2014, total 25064 journals published cumulatively 2.42 million articles. Market scenario of world journal publication industry is provided below.

From 2011 to 2014 four biggies, namely, Elsevier BV, Springer-Nature, Wiley-Blackwell and Informa UK Limited had average market share of 23.4%, 11.1%, 7% and 5.1% respectively. These four biggies cumulatively control 46.7% of the world journal publishing market. See the below figure to get more information.

In the year 2014 Elsevier BV, Springer Nature, Wiley-Blackwell, Informa UK Limited and Trans Tech Publications published 570398, 274936, 152588, 120250 and 58911 articles respectively. World’s top 15 publishers cumulatively published 1539950 articles, which is roughly 63.5% of total published articles in 2014 (i.e. 2423122 articles).

Sciencedomain International started its journey in 2011 with a portfolio of 18 journals. In 2015, Sciencedomain international operates total 35 journals. In that time several journals from new publishers as well reputed publishers could not sustain the fierce competition in journal publication industry. Several journals are about to die or already closed. As of 2015, Sciencedomain international controls 0.27% of the world publishing market. Other leading OA publishers like, Public Library of Science (PLoS), Hindawi Publishing Corporation, MDPI AG control 1.4%, 1.2% and 0.5% of the world publishing market, respectively.

Sciencedomain international had 0.01% share in 2011. From 2011, Sciencedomain international is growing with remarkable growth rate. It is really commendable that Sciencedomain international grew from 0.01% to 0.14% in first four years of its operation. It should be also noted that growth rate of Sciencedomain international in first four years of operation is more than that of other leading OA publishers like Public Library of Science (PLoS), Hindawi Publishing Corporation, MDPI AG (as shown below).

We are extremely thankful to our all authors, who are keeping faith on the quality of SDI journals. SDI journals have been chosen by academicians of many famous universities like Harvard, Columbia University, Cambridge, University of Chicago, Yale University, University of Göttingen, etc (Please see here). In order to maintain highest level of transparency and high standard of review, 33 SDI journals presently follow highly respected and toughest Advanced OPEN peer-review system. We are so much thankful to our peer reviewers for making ‘Advanced OPEN peer review system’ a great success. Editors are developing, protecting and nurturing all SDI journals like their ‘own baby’ with great passion and dedication. We hope that scholarly community will appreciate this Advanced OPEN peer-review system, which is expected to give doubtless scholarly benefit and impact to the authors in long run. Additionally we strongly encourage and promote “Post-publication Peer review” by our comment section. Sciencedomain International sincerely thanks everybody for its present position in world publication market.

SDI journal got 35th ranking in Publons

We are delighted to announce (as of 04/01/2016) that British Journal of Medicine and Medical Research got 35th ranking in Publons as per the number of published reviews (see here: https://publons.com/journal/?order_by=reviews) with 304 published reviews (see the screenshot here).  PLOS one (Public Library of Science), ranked first with 5747 published reviews. Scientific Reports (Nature Publishing Group) ranked 6th with 798 published reviews. BMJ case reports (BMJ publishing Group) got 18th rank with 473 published reviews. PeerJ got 52nd rank with 258 published reviews. BMJ got 60th rank with 244 published reviews. Nature communications (Nature Publishing Group) got 66th rank with 239 published reviews and so on. It should be noted that content of this page and rankings are dynamic and ranking changes with time as per the number of published reviews. Most probably Sciencedomain international is the youngest entity in the first 35, crowded by big names like Nature Publishing Group, Elsevier, Wiley, Taylor and Francis, BMJ, Sage, MDPI, OUP, RSC, ASM, APS, NAS, BioMed central, etc.

SDI journals follow transparent and toughest ‘Advanced OPEN peer review’ system (Detailed general information is available in this link).

We are thankful to all reviewers who are actively making this peer review system a great success. Editors are nurturing all the journals with great care, passion and love from the very beginning. Without the hard work of editors and reviewers implementation of this transparent OPEN peer review was impossible. We want to express our sincere thanks to all authors, who show their guts to participate in this transparent OPEN peer review system, where all criticism of reviewers/editors are open in front of the public.

We very much appreciate the efforts of Publons to make scholarly publication field a better world by making it more systematic, measurable and transparent. Publons works with reviewers, publishers, universities, and funding agencies to turn peer review into a measurable research output. Thank you everybody.
